About

Minni Mäkinen is a Finnish artist and photographer born in Finland but raised in Brazil and Switzerland. She studied art in Florence, Italy, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with a focus on Photography and New Media. Her international experiences and multicultural background have greatly influenced her artistic creation.

 

 

Minni Mäkinen is known for her abstract compositions, which combine still-life photography and digital painting.

 In her work, she explores themes of transition, time, and identity, focusing on capturing movement and deformation. Her pieces often reflect moments between events and examine the relationship between the pastand its impact on both individual and collective identity. 

Constantly pushing artistic boundaries, Minni experiments with light, color, and techniques, inviting viewers to reflect on the concept of time in today’s fast-changing world.

Projects

In 2024, she introduced the project “Expanding Horizons,” which visually explores moments of personal growth and expanding boundaries. Through abstract still-life photographs of flowers, she creates a metaphor for the strong memories, events, people, and places that shape our identity and contribute to our development.

Another significant work is the “Translated Landscapes” series from 2023-2024, which is a personal reflection on multicultural environments and focuses on the energy of different countries and places. The project embodies the process of learning a new language and adapting to new surroundings, highlighting how visual references, like art, can bridge language barriers.

Mäkinen’s works have been exhibited internationally, including in galleries in New York, Paris, London, and Athens. Her creations have been published in various art magazines such as the Flux Review Magazine, Zugerzeitung, and Collect Art Magazine.

 

Minni have earned awards, such as the silver award in the Fine Art & Photo Manipulation category at the 2023 Muse Photography Awards for her piece “Bloom IV.”

Collab

Recently, she decided to collaborate with the Swiss brand the flowerzzz, a concept focused on design and minimalist floral arrangements. This collaboration emerged naturally, as many of Mäkinen’s works are based on flowers, which play a key role in her art. Both parties share an aesthetic and values – minimalist design and modern style.

The joint project that came out of this collaboration focuses on merging the real beauty of flowers with the art of capturing them in a minimalist, modern style, simplicity and harmony – every detail is carefully considered.

We interviewed Minni about her experience working together and what she expected from the collaboration: 

 

What led you to collaborate with the flowerzzz?

MINNI: „Flowers are always my starting point in art. Having just moved back to Switzerland from Florence, I was hoping to find a florist who not only shared my aesthetic but also approached flowers as an art form. When I discovered the flowerzzz on social media, I instantly fell in love, not just with their bouquets but also with their style and presence.“

How did this collaboration come about? Who reached out first?

MINNI: „I had been following the flowerzzz for a while, and one day, I finally built up the courage to message them on Instagram. They responded so quickly and kindly, everything just clicked from there.“

What was the main goal of this collaboration? What message did you want to convey?

MINNI: „For me, the goal was to merge two forms of artistry and craftsmanship. But beyond that, this collaboration is about celebrating beauty and the connections it creates. I think it’s more important than ever to highlight the joy and strength that come from creative energy.“

How would you describe the atmosphere while working together? Was it spontaneous or carefully planned?

MINNI: „It was a perfect balance of both. From the very first meeting, Emma was incredibly organized, professional, and easygoing, which set the tone for everything that followed. While we put a lot of thought into the process, we also gave ourselves room to go with the flow, trusting each other’s creativity and talent.“

What did you enjoy most about working with the flowerzzz? Any surprises or favorite moments?

MINNI: „I’ve loved every part of it! I’m naturally a social butterfly, so collaborating with Emma, Kris, and Aurora has been amazing. Even when we weren’t meeting in person, planning and staying in touch felt more like hanging out in the studio.“

How was it merging your style with theirs? Did anything need to be aligned?

MINNI: „It felt completely natural. I took time to observe their visual approach, like their preferred angles for photography and we discussed our expectations early on. While we have similar styles, I love that our individual personalities still shine through in the final result.

Can we expect another project with the flowerzzz in the future?

MINNI: „I’d love nothing more!“

Do you have a favorite experience from this collaboration that you'll never forget?

MINNI: „Beyond anything that can be shown online, the most meaningful part has been the friendship we’ve built. It’s something I truly treasure.“

If you had to describe this collaboration in one word, what would it be and why?

MINNI: „Flourishing - a collaboration that bloomed beautifully in every way.“
